
Iran’s jailed Rights activist Narges Mohammadi wins the
2023 Nobel Peace Prize for fighting women’s oppression. She was chosen from about 350 nominations.
She is the former Vice President of the Defenders of Human Rights Centre (DHRC).
Much of her life has been behind bars for her activism. She is currently in prison.
Mohammadi, 51, has been bold and active despite facing numerous arrests and spending years behind bars for “her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.”(Award Committee).
As a sacrificial victim for the cause of human rights, she has been arrested 13 times, convicted five times and sentenced for 31 years in jail and 154 lashes.
The Award announcement will embolden her and her followers, and also all men and women of good will and those standing for human rights.
