Our Friend 2024 is moving out saying good bye.
After travelling with us like a faithful friend, it lets us have the experience of a new friend in 2025.
During our friendship, we joked, we chatted, we spent hours in silence looking at the golden rays of the sunshine, the dark formation of clouds, sometimes a silver lining in them.
Our friend guided us through 365 days, not a day missed! So faithful.
When we had our blues, when we were downcast, it told us to look up saying, ‘it is not the end of the world; look up, count the stars, see the fireflies!’
When we walked through alleys and bylanes, when we thought we were in an endless tunnel, it steadied our nerves and helped us move ahead towards the sunshine end of the tunnel.
Our friend taught us how to appreciate bright colours, to talk to butterflies, to hear the songs of chirping birds, the murmuring music of streams, the rustle of leaves, and the chattering of rain drops.
It invited us to enjoy the sumptuous meal of mother nature, her green fields and fruit trees, thick foliage and dropping leaves!
It took us to areas where perhaps we did not want to go or think of! The underbelly of a world of people deprived of basic rights and needs, abandoned to fend for themselves in the midst of high inflation, mindless GST, and soaring prices.
When politicians blasted into our ears mind-blowing promises, our friend chipped in to tell us to take them with a pinch of salt. Promises are made to be broken, so that they can come again with more lollipops!
Travelling with our friend has been a learning, growing experience. We saw, we felt, we experienced, we learnt that life is a journey, a mystery to be lived in order to appreciate and admire its creative contours and shades!
