P. A. Chacko
Today we remind ourselves more strongly that our Constitution, the Bible of our nation, is a treasure house.
We respect it, we cherish it.
We solemnly resolve that we shall not tamper with the fundamental values, principles and rights it confers on us as citizens.
We cherish its human and fundamental values of justice, peace, fellowship, national integration and welfare.
We uphold its noble principle of secularity that spells out that religious freedom is a fundamental right.
We believe and uphold that, irrespective of caste, class and creed, we are fellows of a noble nation.
We believe and uphold that our right to life and peaceful existence is inalienable and indispensable.
We believe and uphold that all the citizens have the fundamental right of freedom, equal justice and access to just welfare and progress.
We shall defend our nation’s Constitution from elements and predators that want to attempt to devalue it.
We shall question the Executive when it wants to waterdown the Constitutional provisions for its own convenience and comfort.
We shall challenge our legislators and elected representatives when they will attempt to dilute and dilate the sacred values and principles of the Constitution.
We shall not sit idle when the judicial precincts are rented out to the Executive or conniving forces which may try to corrupt judicial impartiality.
We shall uphold the freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of the press. We shall not let any ‘godi media’ prejudice us or force us to gulp down lies and half truths.
We shall want to dispel all social and economic disparities.
We shall build a strong democratic, secular and inclusive nation.
We shall cherish and practice human fellowship by respecting people as persons beyond class, caste or creed.
Into that heaven of freedom, my God, let my country awake!
