Sitaram Yechury (12 August 1952 – 12 September 2024) passed away. 

Yechury was an Indian Marxist politician and was the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and was a member of the Politburo of the CPI(M) since 1992.

From 2005 to 2017 he was a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from West Bengal. 
He was a decent politician without courting controversies.

Yechury was admitted to the department of emergency medicine at AIIMS Delhi on 19 August  due to respiratory problems.
It was reported that he had displayed symptoms of pneumonia-like chest infection.
Suffering from an acute respiratory infection, he passed away on 12 September 2024 at the age of 72.
He is survived by his wife, daughter Akhila and son Daanish.
