Ram Dayal was commonly  known as R. D. Munda.

Munda was Anthropologist, Linguist, Folklorist, Music Exponent, Academician, Agriculturalist, and Vice-Chancellor.
He was Vice-Chancellor of Ranchi University and a member of the Rajya Sabha. He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2007.
He was a scholar and regional music exponent. He was awarded the Padma Shri of the year 2010 for his contribution to the field of art.

Munda has authored many books highlighting indigenous people’s crucial issues. He represented India in the Festival of India in the USSR, and other cultural events in China, Japan and South East Asia.
He was one of the architects of the new State of Jharkhand which came to existence in 2000.
As I knew him, he was a paragon of simplicity which characterizes his people.
