AI’s purpose must promote human dignity- Pope

As Pope Francis encouraged the proponents of Artificial Intelligence (AI)  to continue examining the true purpose of AI, he asked: “Does it serve to satisfy the needs of humanity, to improve the well-being and integral development of people?” Or does it, rather, “serve to enrich and increase the already high power of the few technological giants despite the dangers to humanity?” (Source: Vatican News)

Artificial intelligence (AI) is apparently intelligence generated  through machines , especially computer systems.

The AI systems help towards making increased automation and data-driven decision making in various human sectors. They impact job markets, health care field, propaganda industry, information, disinformation, industrial sector, I T sector and even your kitchen sector.
A serious concern questions AI’s longterm effects and implications related to ethics, safety and benefits of modern technology.

Elon Musk is reported to have warned that, “if you are not concerned about AI safety, you should be.”

AI makers give machines (software and hardware) human-like abilities. Machines mimic human intelligence. Machines are enabled to hear, speak, move, make decisions and even influence our human thinking.

It differs from traditional technology by having capacity to make predictions and even learn on its own. Without direct human intervention, AI can predict, make decisions, perform varied jobs from responding to emails to complex industrial requirements.

Google Map engages AI to predict optimal travel routes so that travellers can opt for better and faster routes.

Companies like Amazon use AI to predict the tastes and tendencies of prospective buyers.

AI is said to minimize human error due to fatigue, memory loss or such human factors. No fear of ‘printer’s devil’ here.

AI is said to work 24plus/7 to maxize befit and output. Nor does it go drowsy or tired. Nor does it take drugs!

However, AI may have a ‘Black Box’ privacy of its data and thereby may lack in tranparency, we are warned.

If artificial intelligence takes over 100 percent, what have the human to do? Create another intelligent monster or migrate to another planet?
