Earth Day celebrations took off in 1970. The idea of a group of Earth lovers grew into a gigantic tree as a global phenomenon. It is an environmental movement to appreciate Mother Earth’s gifts to the world and to protect the Earth from pollution and destruction.
The Earth is home to eight billion people and trillions of other beings and organisms
The theme for 2024 is : Planet versus Plastics.
Plastic revolution enabling our varied benefits has thrown up the challenge of saving our planet from plastic pollution. Plastic products are most often use and throw items. We carelessly dump them everywhere. People litter them in the streets, in canals, oceans , public places etc. Much harm is done to humans, animals, amphibians and all.
In India, roaming cows and bulls swallow plastic from waste heaps and get suffocated or killed. Animals roaming in public spaces are themselves a menace. Those who tend the animals may worship them but throw them out of their shelters to get lost and end up with plastic life.
People need to be taught how to handle and dispose of waste plastic. School students should have programmes to learn how to dispose of plastic and how to save the Earth planet from plastic pollution .
