The World Heritage Day celebration is meant to highlight the great significance of monuments, structures, sites and landscapes that are dedicated to humanity.
They highlight our diverse cultures and traditions. They have historical significance.
They need to be preserved and protected for posterity for imbibing the cultural richness in them.
Unfortunately, often anti-cultural chauvinists and fundamentalist marauders emerge and vandalise heritage sites with skewed political or religious motives. Such forces are criminals impelled by hatred or madness. They are a curse to human community.
