Our world has enough food resources and production to feed everyone equitably. Yet, poverty and hunger are stalking the world with more than 800 million people in their grip. World’s 250 million are malnourished. Against this,1.3 billion tons of food is wasted per year globally.
From production, all along supply chains till storage and consumption, wastage is noticed. Food wastage is understood as wasting food that is intended for human consumption.
The world Food and Agricultural Organization(FAO) and the UN encourage us to reduce food wastage and to increase food security, safety and quality.
Study reports say that, on the global level, the food that is wasted is enough to feed three billion people.
China and India are reported to produce most household waste every year!
