Senior Citizens Day, 2023
A day to recognize the contributions older people have made and continue to make to our society.
Reaching the crimson evening of life, they will have a moutain of memories to chew the cud. Some pleasant and exciting memories, some of hardship and struggle. Some about facing odds and some pointing to a hand of reassurance.
Before they cross over the borders, they have expectations too: to have periods to relax, moments to absorb acceptance and love, or to enoy the company of their children or friends.
How will they feel if they are considered and treated as things to be shelved out of view? How will their human sensibilities take in the actions and reactions of their young ones who find no use value in them?
“The great thing about getting older is that you get a chance to tell the people in your life who matter what they mean to you.” (Mike Love, American singer).
