Cycling enthusiasts worldwide often rave about the Netherlands, a country renowned for its impressive cycling infrastructure and cycling culture. As an avid cyclist, I am fortunate enough to call this beautiful country my home. Today, I want to share my personal story about my beloved bicycle, the joys of cycling in the Netherlands, and the perfect storage place I created for my cherished two-wheeled companions.
Embracing the Dutch Cycling Culture: When you arrive in the Netherlands, one is immediately captivated by the pervasive cycling culture that permeates every corner of the country. Dutch cities, with their well-marked bike lanes and dedicated traffic signals for cyclists, make commuting on two wheels an absolute pleasure. The country’s flat topography and picturesque landscapes make it ideal for cycling adventures of all kinds.
At the heart of my cycling experience are my cherished bicycles. It is not just a means of transportation but almost an extension of my identity and a gateway to exploring the Netherlands (and even Europe). My most trusty bike is the so-called gravel bike, with its sturdy frame, comfortable sports saddle, and reliable gears; it has accompanied me on countless journeys, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the beauty and tranquillity of the Dutch countryside.
The Netherlands, A Cyclist’s Paradise: Cycling in the Netherlands is a truly extraordinary experience. The country boasts of an extensive network of cycling paths, enabling riders to explore both urban landscapes and rural areas with ease. Whether it’s a leisurely ride along the canals of Amsterdam, a thrilling adventure through the breathtaking tulip fields in Lisse or even a more hilly ride in the south of the Netherlands, there is always something new to discover from the saddle.
The Perfect Storage Place for Bikes: As a dedicated cyclist, the storage of my bikes is crucial. Luckily, I have my own small storage at home. But, finding a reliable and secure storage place for your bike when you go for a ride can be somewhat of a challenge. Fortunately, the Netherlands offers an abundance of options catering to the needs of cyclists. One such place is the Fietsenstalling (bike parking facility). These indoor, multi-level bike storage facilities are strategically located near train stations, city centres, and other high-traffic areas. They provide a safe and convenient space for storing bicycles, ensuring peace of mind for cyclists like me.
The Fietsenstalling facilities are equipped with advanced security features, including surveillance cameras and access control systems. Additionally, they offer affordable long-term bike parking subscriptions, allowing cyclists to leave their bikes overnight or for extended periods without worry. The convenience of these storage facilities has made it easier for me to explore the country without the burden of constantly worrying about the safety of my bicycle.
Cycling in the Netherlands is a delightful experience that combines the joy of exploring picturesque landscapes, immersing oneself in a vibrant cycling culture, and the practicality of an extensive cycling infrastructure. With my beloved bicycle by my side and the secure storage facilities provided by the Fietsenstalling, I can indulge in countless cycling adventures throughout the country without any concern for the safety of my trusty steed.
So, whether you’re a local or a visitor, I highly recommend embracing the Dutch cycling culture, hopping on a bicycle to explore the charm of the cities, the serenity of the sprawling countryside, and the stunning natural beauty that the Netherlands has to offer.
