The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated to provide health and safety of workers. It is the workers who keep the world going and keep us alive and vibrant.
They are men and women with blood and flesh, with feelings and needs, with a family to care for.
Today’s celebration is meant to make us all aware of the need for a safety and health culture for workers.
There are many occupational hazards they are vulnerable to. In this summer heat farm and construction workers may become victims of heat stroke or dehydration.
Accidents by falling or due to machine malfunction can harm factory workers, miners or construction workers. Other occupational diseases can be tuberculosis, lung and kidney diseases, or other physical or mental hazards.
Employers have prime responsibility to see that workers are protected from unsafe conditions or unhealthy situations.
