This day aims at plans to tackle global hunger and striving to eradicate hunger across the world.

India has 1.397 billion population. It prides itself to be the second most populous country in the world enjoying steady economic growth. It is supposed to have achieved self-sufficiency in grain production in recent years.  Yet, ‘India is home to a quarter of all undernourished people worldwide.’

Food is life. Food is culture. Lack of food tells on people’s health and nourishment. It affects the nation’s health.

Politicians speak of poverty alleviation. Not poverty eradication. Poor people are needed for politicians to survive. Hence, the strategy they plan and implement is items like: one rupee rice, free ration for more marginalised people.

India has abundant resources. India is not poor. But many Indians are poor because the resources are controlled by the politician-businessman combine.

Farmers are on strike. They want the strangulating laws to be withdrawn. Adivasis are displaced by taking ways their forest and agricultural land. Food is snatched away from them. What a scenario!
