We are a sovereign nation. We are our own masters as guaranteed by our sacred Constitution.
We declared India independent on August 15, 1947. In 1950 we brought into force our Constitution and proclaimed our right and privilege to govern our country free from the shackles of all foreign domination.
When we framed our Constitution we framed our own rules for governance and ascertained that all citizens would have rights, duties and equality before law.
We need to preserve the guarantees of our rights as promised us by our Constitution. In the process of developing human and material resources for our and our country’s overall development, our constitution cannot be bartered for skewed ideologies and pretentious pragmatism.
It is unfortunate that there are some sinister tendencies raising their venomous fangs to whittle down our Constitution or even do away with it. Attempts are afoot to replace it with fundamentalist and unscientific theories and formulations which can even destroy our nation.
The fruit of the sweat and blood our freedom fighters and the nation’s founding fathers should not go waste.
Today, those who had no part in the freedom struggle are attempting to rewrite our holy Constitution with their own ink. They pretend to be masters of us all and dictate to us terms of behaviour, dress code or even food habits. They declare fatwa against different religious expressions and rituals.
They want to kill anyone who does not say Vande Mataram. With hatred in their hearts and cruelty in their souls they do lip service to Mother India.
O Mother India, how can you be free in the midst of all this spread of venom and visceral bile.
Let this Constitution Day strengthen all right-minded citizens to vow to stand for truth, justice and equality!
