Tuberculosis is a deadly disease. Every year it claims millions of lives the world over. Out of the global total of 9.6 million incidence of TB, India accounts for 2.2 million.

World TB Day is an opportunity to promote awareness of the causes and ill effects of this disease, the preventable measures people should take and for looking for appropriate treatment.

In India every year 220,000 deaths due to TB are reported.  The highest incidence of TB is reported from Uttar Pradesh with an incidence of 215,100,000 cases.
